Eli was one of the spiritual figures of Dogon society, travelling between communities when we encountered him. His authority is reflected in what he carries: most distinctive is his elaborately carved staff, an emblem whose significance extends far beyond that of a walking stick. Traditionally, a Hogon’s staff could be entrusted to an emissary, allowing its bearer to carry his authority into another village. Together with the white-haired whisk and leather pouches at his side, Eli’s possessions speak to a role entrusted with more than everyday affairs — moving between communities while carrying something of their spiritual and ancestral world with him.

ARCHITECTURAL PRINTS
Selected photographs from the collection may also be commissioned as Architectural Prints, custom-produced for residential, commercial, hospitality and interior installations.
Created specifically for the space in which they will be seen, Architectural Prints can be produced in custom dimensions and a range of contemporary presentation formats, including Diasec, acrylic and aluminium mounting.
In these formats, the photographic image becomes an integral part of the finished piece, permanently bonded to its presentation and intended to remain as such.
Architectural Prints are unsigned and unnumbered and exist entirely outside the limited Exhibition Editions and Artist’s Proofs.
Please enquire to discuss dimensions, presentation and pricing.
