Talaso & Halkano II | Borana Tribe

£10,500.00

In the Chalbi Desert, water completely changes the landscape. Talaso and Halkano stand beside a spring where groundwater reaches the surface and an oasis of doum palms rises abruptly from the surrounding aridity. After days of dust, rock and open desert, the density of vegetation felt almost improbable. The Borana of northern Kenya trace their history northwards into the Oromo-speaking lands of southern Ethiopia, from where communities expanded into what is now northern Kenya over several centuries. Even their name carries an idea of belonging: Borana is associated in Oromo usage with notions of kinship and community, and with the moral qualities expected of a Borana person. Against that history, this isolated spring feels particularly significant — one of the precious points around which people, livestock and settlement could endure in a landscape otherwise governed by distance and scarcity.

Museum-grade, optically clear, anti-reflective glass sourced from Switzerland completes the presentation, providing 99% UV protection while preserving the clarity, colour and detail of the photograph.

Exhibition Editions and Artist’s Proofs are produced to a fixed size and specification.

Prices exclude shipping.

ARCHITECTURAL PRINTS

Selected photographs from the collection may also be commissioned as Architectural Prints, custom-produced for residential, commercial, hospitality and interior installations.

Created specifically for the space in which they will be seen, Architectural Prints can be produced in custom dimensions and a range of contemporary presentation formats, including Diasec, acrylic and aluminium mounting.

In these formats, the photographic image becomes an integral part of the finished piece, permanently bonded to its presentation and intended to remain as such.

Architectural Prints are unsigned and unnumbered and exist entirely outside the limited Exhibition Editions and Artist’s Proofs.

Please enquire to discuss dimensions, presentation and pricing.
